Foursquare 8.0 Launches
This week the social media world received the new Foursquare. The updated app is known to be one of the best city guides you can get on a smartphone. Foursquare helps you to locate popular restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, nightlife, and more within a city.
The popular app originally became known for ‘check-ins’, where users would ‘check-in’ to a location when they visited, such as a restaurant, allowing users to notify the world as to where they are. Users could also provide reviews and tips for the locations based on their visits.
With the new Foursquare, the ‘check-in’ is out. The act of checking into a location has completely been removed from the app. For those who would still like to announce their location, the spin off app ‘Swarm’ is available for check-ins and seeing what your friends are up to.
The 5-year-old-company has released Foursquare 8.0 and it is a huge step forward for the app. The updates put Foursquare’s best features front and center.
Upon launching the App you will be prompted to log in, as you always have. Then the app will begin creating a profile of you by asking for information. These questions range from iced coffee, fish tacos, Thai food and cozy places. Select as many options as you like, and Foursquare will use these preferences, along with check-in history, its own restaurant ratings and data from your Foursquare friends to provide recommendations for you.
You will also find filters in the app that allow you to filter recommendations by price, cuisine, distance and much more. You can even filter specific features, such as being dog-friendly, or having Wi-Fi.
Although, these changes will take some getting used to, the updates appear to be a giant step in the right direction when it comes to providing a richer user experience on the app.
Foursquare is an app that has become a staple for many businesses. What are your thoughts on Foursquare 8.0?
